Last summer, our friends at Warner Building Group installed wrap-around stairs and railings on our deck. And it only took us 13 months to finally do something with our perfect blank canvas of a deck!
As a reminder, here’s what our deck looked like once Warner Building Group finished with it:

And here’s what it looks like today:

The big project here was staining the deck. We went with Olympic Elite Stain and Sealant in one, so that we just had to do one coat. But let’s talk about the color … We chose Olivewood, a beautiful muted brown that, based on the half inch sample in the Home Depot magazine, we thought looked a lot like our interior floor color. So we bought a gallon and started applying it – who has time for samples/test staining?! But after applying, we immediately realized just how dark it looked. WAYYYY darker than we thought. But, I think we’re making it work!
Word to the wise: Test a small patch of your stain color somewhere hidden and make sure you like it before you dive right in.

Another fun project was my mini “herb garden” that I planted near our grill. Cilantro, parsley, green onion, and a couple different varieties of mint for fun summer drinks!

SO, who wants to come have a drink with us out here this summer?

Sources:
Stain color: Olympic Elite Semi-Transparent (Color: American Chestnut)
Outdoor dining furniture (Note: We’ve had this for a while and the stain started to wear after a couple Minnesota winters. So, we sanded it down and stained it a lighter color.)
Outdoor rug (size 7′ x 10′)
Over-the-railing planter box holder
Palm leaf placemats (old from Target, similar HERE)
Grill (ours is an old edition Weber Genesis, similar HERE)
Love it. We will be right over for a margarita.
